28th-Feb-2006 10:46 am - Birthday parties
Erin
Last week was Helen's birthday, so I thought I should post the pics... May & Will got her bday treats (May's was complete with those candles that keep sparking back to life) and Helen had her sugar sugar bear for the celebration.

Erin
Why no posts?
No STL updates?
Are Kathryn, Phil, and I the only ones who read this or just the only ones who post?
Hmmm...
I sense some top secret detective work in my future. Maybe I will be more successful at that than I am at keeping plants alive.

Ahhh, just put the finishing touches on my powerpoint for this afternoon. I'm at work up in Kenan as we speak. The joys of this job. I'm telling ya, I get SO much done up here. I'm definitely doing this again next year, as I am about 2 hours from a raise and I just found out that TA's in the chem department make a flat rate for the semester that is a lot less than what I made working this semester. Plus being a TA is indubitably a lot more work. Haha Erin, nice post you have there. And WTF about the radio being gone? Argh.
I hope I don't get reamed in the lab meeting!

After a long day of work, teaching, and dinner + a few beers with Will and Mike. We ran into Corbin at Linda's and it got me thinking: once upon a time Corbin gave us advice on running gels while not so sober "you put the combs in the middle" so when you run the gel, even if you hook up the current backwards, you won't lose product. But what is the standard protocol for plating seeds while mildly intoxicated? I'm going to guess it's something like "don't plant seeds you only have 10 of." So no TILLING crosses on plates tonight. But I will plate everything else. Will should be joining me shortly.

I came in today and officially moved into Phil's old desk. I was going to do it all last week (but Phil just couldn't stay away) and then on Thursday when I started moving stuff over, I got this look like "he JUST LEFT how can you move in so quickly?" So aside from sitting there with my (my?) IBM for the rest of the week, I left the moving til the weekend when the protesters would be away. It was strangely satisfying to move all of my stuff, have a better space, for once have room for my books, and to start getting things organized. My goal is to find a place in the office for everything so that there is free table and desk space for those too unfortunate (you know you feel that way!) to have their own desks. We'll see if it works or not though...

Helen and I finally found a site with all of the lyrics to "Sugar Sugar" so she'd be able to decipher exactly what her bear was singing. They're now posted on the wall next to her desk. Helen has now decided that for some reason my nickname will be blue sugar. I'm not sure why, but hey, who am I to argue? :)

I'm soooo sick. I'm MIA in the lab this week, that's for sure.

And I already miss Phil :(

Well, I'm hoping this is my last afternoon in the Jones Lab. I'll be in tomorrow morning I expect, but at some point I have to help Amanda clean the apartment. I think everything in the lab is in order, and all put away right. We'll see.

I'm going to miss you guys, and look forward to reading many a good joneslab' saga on this blog over the coming months and years.....

...Phil signing off :-(.

I fixed Yash's photo... now we're like the MIB or something. Anyway, I got Helen to model her sunglasses as well. She said she was "transgenic Helen" since she had four eyes. hehe.

Everyone else
I'm very excited about this livejournal thing. I'm always on the lookout for a new method of procrastination. Apparently sunglasses are a must with the cool kids of the Jones lab. We should photoshop Yash's picture and render her glasses opaque so she doesn't feel left out :D

Yay for Fridays!!
